Fortune Performance is a small software firm building digital services for the federal agricultural sector — modern applications, applied AI, and operational tooling for USDA, NIFA, and the producers they serve.
Founder & Principal Investigator
Software engineer and federal technical program manager building Fortune Performance to bring engineering rigor — and first-hand producer perspective — to USDA digital services.
Our Thesis
Decades of investment in defense, health, and treasury modernization have produced a generation of digital service teams that ship real software for real users. Agriculture has lagged. USDA serves more than two million farms, dozens of program offices, and a research apparatus that touches every corner of American food production — and it is hungry for the same standard of tooling.
Fortune Performance was founded to do that work. We pair federal-grade software engineering with first-hand agricultural knowledge — because the people building the tools should understand the operation that depends on them.
What We Do
Three core practice areas. Each one is informed by direct experience inside federal contracting and by working a real agricultural operation.
Custom software, modernization of legacy systems, and product delivery for federal agencies — built to the standards already proven across the federal digital service community.
Tools built specifically for producers, extension, and the USDA program offices that serve them. Operational record-keeping, herd and crop data, cost tracking, decision support — designed by someone who uses these systems on his own operation.
Pragmatic AI integration for federal program offices and small businesses — automating reporting, data ingestion, document workflows, and decision support without the hype.
Case Study · Flagship Project
Haymow is a herd, feed, and operations platform purpose-built for small and medium-sized livestock producers — the segment of American agriculture that is largest by count, smallest by software budget, and most poorly served by the existing tooling.
It tracks feed inputs and costs, monitors animal health, captures production data, and surfaces the operational signals a producer actually needs — without requiring an enterprise license, a consultant, or a stable LTE signal.
Haymow is the flagship project of Fortune Performance and the basis of an in-progress USDA SBIR proposal. It is also the system the founder uses to run his own herd.
About the Founder
Fortune Performance is led by Peter Egan, founder and Principal Investigator. The company was built deliberately around three perspectives that almost never sit in the same person:
More than ten years building software and leading technical programs, with the last three focused inside federal contracting on VA digital services. Familiar with how federal software actually gets built, reviewed, and shipped — the engineering standards, the procurement realities, and the program-office side of the work.
Operates a working livestock operation. Knows from direct experience what producers track, why existing software doesn't fit, and where the real friction points are between a producer and the federal programs designed to support them.
A decade of running his own businesses before founding Fortune Performance. Approaches federal small-business contracting vehicles, including SBIR, as someone who has actually run a business — payroll, customers, taxes, and all — not just studied one.
That combination is the entire point. Most federal ag-tech is built either by people who understand the technology but not the producer, or the producer but not the technology. Fortune Performance is built to close that gap.
